Unraveling EmotionThur June 12 2025
Unraveling Emotion is a wall-scale installation that turns changing feelings into something you can see and follow. I work on a tall cork panel because cork is a surface we use to pin notes and reminders. It already suggests the act of holding memories in place. Onto this support I pour melted wax in calm blue tones at the top, then move through cooler greens and questioning yellows, and finally end in urgent reds near the base. While the wax is warm gravity pulls it downward. When it cools every drip freezes, becoming a clear record of one passing moment.

As the lower wax begins to set I press strands of red yarn into it. Some threads stay inside the wax while others slip out and fall into a narrow bed of hand-shaped clay along the bottom edge. The yarn behaves like exposed nerves or roots that cannot stay hidden. The clay anchors these loose ends and brings an earthlike weight to the piece.

The work invites viewers to read the surface from eye level down, tracing a quiet to loud journey of emotion. Wax carries light in a way that lets colour glow while still showing depth. Yarn adds tension and motion. Clay and cork bring texture that feels close to the body. Together these materials create a fragile system that shows flow and pause at once. By watching colour descend and threads unravel, we may recognise how our own inner states shift, slip, and finally settle.
