Blood Chain is a series of five works combining heart-rate responsive lights, mirrors, transparent sofas, clay, and transparent paintings. It explores the brokenness and intimacy within family bonds. The interactive lights invite viewers to participate, transforming their own heartbeat into part of the work.

Inspired by Louise Bourgeois, I began to focus on themes of blood ties and kinship, using red, fabric, and mirrors to deepen this exploration. I also discovered an interest in interactive art, experimenting with sensor-based lighting that responds uniquely to each participant’s pulse.

Mirrors symbolize the many sides of the self, transparent sofas suggest the illusory nature of our world, clay represents disintegrating flesh, and transparent paintings evoke the intertwining and obscurity of family ties.

The work has been installed both indoors and by a window. I especially value the window installation—on a rainy day, the transparent painting swayed with the wind and water as if alive.
